چکیده

Abstract Aim Over 20,000 hip hemiarthroplasties for fractures are performed annually in the UK. NICE currently recommends performing these via anterolateral approach, to reduce risk of dislocation, with potential expense reducing function and mobility post-operatively. To address issues, muscle-sparing approaches have been utilised "SPAIRE" (Sparing Piriformis Internus Repairing Externus) is one them. Method Retrospective analysis prospectively collected data over a 10-month period was at single centre. All fracture patients who had hemiarthroplasty as their primary treatment were included. We demographic data, pre- post- operative status, time reach that, surgical duration surgery complications. Our outcome dislocation rate secondary outcomes post-operative mobilisation surgery. Results Between October 2021 August 2022, we identified 194 cases, divided into three groups based on approach used: SPAIRE = 43, Anterolateral 97, Posterior 54. similar demographics minimum two-month follow-up. There no dislocations group, compared 2 (2%) (3.7%) groups. The mean return 1.4 days patients, 2.6 other times (74min, 79min, 71min respectively). Conclusions seems be lowering mobilisation, potentially improving undergoing hemiarthroplasty.

Techniques in Cementation for Hip Hemiarthroplasty

Hip fractures in the elderly population remain a significant public health concern. With a rise in the incidence of osteoporosis, orthopaedic surgeons must be familiar with different fixation options in both trauma and arthroplasty to minimize complications and implant failure following treatment of femoral neck fractures. Cemented hip hemiarthroplasty is a reliable method for restoring functio...

The Conversion Rate of Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty after a Hip Fracture to a Total Hip Arthroplasty

BACKGROUND Bipolar hip hemiarthroplasty is used in the management of fractures of the proximal femur. The dual articulation is cited as advantageous in comparison to unipolar prostheses as it decreases acetabular erosion, has a lower dislocation rates and is easier to convert to a total hip arthroplasty (THA) should the need arise. However, these claims are debatable. Our study examines the rat...

Details of a Tendon–Sparing Posterior Approach in Hemiarthroplasty in the Treatment of Displaced Intracapsular Neck of Femur Fracture

This paper details a tendon–sparing surgical technique allowing hemiarthroplasty through a posterior approach in all cases whilst preserving the Quadriceps coxa. The SPAIRE (Sparing Piriformis and Internus, Repair Externus) technique, described by Hanly et al. for routine use in total hip replacement, theoretically offers the functional benefits of the posterior approach with reduced risk of di...
